Caring for the Trees - 9.30.09

 Today at school, our neighbor had a very sick tree and hired Rocky's Maintenance Inc. to come and cut it down. While the children were playing outside they watched the men and machines cut this gigantic tree down into many pieces. The children felt the tree would be sad and wondered why these men were cutting it down.  One child said, " the tree died or is dying now that it is getting cut down."  The children had lots of questions and requested Ms. Virginia to go and talk to the men.  Ms. Virginia presented the children's questions, "Why are they cutting this big tree down?"  "Can we have any pieces of the tree for our outdoor play area?"  The gentlemen were very helpful, sharing how the tree was sick and needed to get cut down.  They decided to cut a huge tree stump and cut out the center to make a Tree Chair for the children to sit in. The children were very excited to wake up from their nap and to see their new chair in the backyard.  The children learned that the remainder of the tree that was cut down was used as wood chips for their neighbor's driveway and firewood to keep her warm.  The children were very happy to know the tree was being taken care of and used in a special way.   Comments
